Harry Potter, Summer Nights and the San Diego Symphony

I am an unashamed adult woman who owns her own wizard robes and a wand (House Hufflepuff for those who are interested!)

Having the score played live by the San Diego Symphony while watching a Harry Potter movie certainly makes for an unforgettable experience - especially bayside, under the stars.

My layout today documents my 2 very different Harry Potter / Symphony experiences! And I am combining 2 events that occurred 5 years apart.

Hearts N Crafts had the perfect 2 Page Kit for this project - Harry Potter Kings Cross Station. This is one of two Harry Potter themed kits available (stayed tuned for the next kit!)

These kits contain patterned paper, plenty of cardstock and and precut ephemera.

You can stick to the sample photo included with the kit (which is perfect as it!) or veer off on your own design.... let's see how I made this my own!

I often do my journal first, it puts me back in the place of the photos and sparks my creativity! My journaling for this layout:

Bayside Summer Nights with the San Diego Symphony

In 2017, my fellow "Potterheads" Liz and her son Shane joined me for a screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets down on the bay. With the San Diego Symphony playing the entire score live, it was a truly magical experience! We had "lawn seats"—the bargain area—where we spread out a blanket and enjoyed picnic snacks, all while proudly sporting our Hogwarts gear.

Flash forward to 2022: the new Rady Shell (a work of art in itself) was finally complete. Danny and I, along with Brian and Sandy Calvin, leveled up our experience with table seating right down in front, complete with food and beverage service. We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for another enchanting evening of live music under the stars.

Now let's scrap!

What I Used:

  • Hearts N Crafts, Harry Potter Kings Cross Station 2 Page Kit
  • Adhesives: Art Glitter Liquid Glue, Foam Pop Dots from Creative Memories
  • Sequin Mix (big sequin mix from kids craft section of Michaels)
  • Stamp:  Stampin' Up Alpha / Number Stamp (no longer available - but I got mine on eBay - I use it on almost EVERY layout - a must have tool for me!)

What I Did:

  • To Start: Trim 1/4" off each edge of printed cardstock and mount onto solid black cardstock
  •  Designer notes trim 1/2" off each edge and add faux or real stitching around your base for extra texture and "wow"!

Page 1:

  • I added "Harry Potter" title to top of page as shown in kit example.  Added a sub-title (San Diego Symphony) across the main title using the alpha stamp on white cardstock scraps (inked edges of cardstock) mounted with foam dots.
  • I used a 3x4 photo printed with border and matted on black, along with a 4 x 6 Journaling spot double mounted on white and black
  • My journaling font is "kingthings typewriter 2" I wanted a font to give "Daily Prophet" vibes
  • Added book stack and owl ephemera from kit - book stack is glued flat, owl is on pop dots.

Special Note:  I hated omitting the train ephemera on this page!  I was at a crop while I was putting together this layout and that one piece of ephemera got damaged!!

Page 2:

  • While the basic design is the same as kit example, I used (2) 4x6 collages (printed with border then mounted on black cardstock)  for photos and swapped the ephemera pieces positions on page.
  • I cut off  the Harry Potter figure from the ephemera and used only the wording "have you seen this wizard"
  • Bordered the 9 3/4" ephemera in black cardstock, mounted with foam dots and added sequins for "magic"!
  • I also added dates right on top of photos using cardstock and the Stanpin' Up Alpha stamp

The final touch......Sequins - - spread across both pages - but not random - I imagined the sweep of a wand!

Thanks for stopping by!
